Here we go again...

Hurricane Rita is bearing down on our coastline. The evacuation lines leaving southern Texas are in gridlock. New Orleans levees are patched and all are nervous as to whether they will hold. Mother Nature is being a bitch!

Katrina taught us many things, according to the news. In my opinion, the only thing it taught us was to have respect for Mother Nature. Things are organized in the evacuation in Texas and Louisiana for Rita. I don't think we learned how to properly evacuate. We knew that. Simple - get the hell out. For Katrina, people were arrogant and stupid. They were arrogant in the face of Mother Nature thinking they could ride out her fury. They were stupid when they ignored mandatory evacuation orders. If you are stupid and arrogant and stay - don't whine that you have to sit on your roof.

I know, I know...there were people who were too poor to leave. What the hell ever. Don't whine about Bush hating the poor blacks - he told you to get out, that it wasn't safe. If he hated you, he wouldn't have bothered with the order to get out. It's not the federal government's job to come to your neighborhood and give you a ride. Instead, whine about your black mayor who let 500 some buses get flooded in, instead of firing up the engines and hauling people out of there during the three day period before the storm hit. Did you NOT pay attention in civics class? There are two layers of government before Washington. Can you only IMAGINE the bitching that would be going on if the feds had swooped down on New Orleans three days before Katrina and taken over the city? Holy shit! Bush would be painted as a dictator in camo ready to strip local and state officials' power right from under them.

My prayers are with those recovering from Katrina and those about to be hit by Rita. As for those who are spouting crap - shut your piehole and pick up a shovel. There's cleaning up to be done.

Torn...

I read that there is a new service through Google that is being piloted in San Francisco. It capitalizes on the wi-fi boom.
Wi-fi connections will route through Google and be able to determine exactly where you are, physically. Google will then serve you ads over wireless that cater to your surroundings. The example given was a Starbucks coupon being delivered to someone walking past a Starbucks.
I'm torn. The geek in me thinks this is very cool technology. The other part of me thinks WHOA! That's way more than I want out there.

Enough with the lips already...

Yet another Hollywood-ite has shown up with the upper lip of a losing prizefighter. Lara Flynn Boyle began her stint on Las Vegas tonight with a lip so damned puffy she couldn't even close her mouth.

Has anyone noticed that they never can seem to get the collagen in straight? Not only do these bimbos look like prizefighters - they look like they have suffered a stroke. Half of the lip hangs there like a tumor. When they smile, the tumor just stays put.

No one's lips should round a corner before the rest of them.

On the plus side, Lara has eaten a sandwich or two. Her arms no longer look like a skeleton covered in snow white skin. Don't get me wrong - she's still SKINNY - and not necessarily in a good way, but at least she doesn't look as though she is headed for the eating disorder ward. She showed her back in a halter top and there were no visible ribs like there were at a red carpet event a while back.

I know...I'm prattling about plastic surgery on pseudo celebs. I haven't commented on Katrina yet. For those of you who give a damn what I think about this disaster, I promise to post my feelings. For those of you who googled celebrity plastic surgery - my work here is done.

New TV Season...

I know...twice in one day!

Just had to post after tonight's premieres. Survivor - as usual, I love it. My early favorite is Gary, although I really liked Margaret too. They have the usual vapid, bikini-sporting, interchangeable bimbos. I watch for the one or two gems really worth pulling for.

I watched some of Bush speaking, but got sucked into the premiere of Supernatural on the WB. REALLY fun show. I'm hooked.

Kind of kicking myself for not getting into Prison Break. Everyone is talking about it like it is great and here I chose to miss it.

As for the Big Brother finale? Please, anybody but Janelle (speaking of reality bimbos).

Just noticed something weird...when I post from Blogger, I get a different look than if I post from my PDA and use Diarist. With Blogger, I get the date header and then a smaller title header. With Diarist, the title is the same as the date header and there is no date listed. Hmmm.

Monday -Part 4

Every day you get up expecting today to be better than yesterday. As the week trudges on and you get closer and closer to the weekend, things look brighter and brighter.

YEAH RIGHT!

This is now Monday Part 4! Everything I touch turns to shit. I needed to just stay in bed with the covers thrown over my head.

Disappointment and stuff...

Yes, the Hawks lost to the Clowns. My Saturday was horrific. But, we'll pick ourselves up and move on. There is a long season ahead and I'm no fairweather fan.

I traveled to a 7th grade football game today. It was a beating, but it was fun to see my youngest two out there on the field of battle. (Have I mentioned that I love football?) Anyway, on the way to the game you pass through a pocket of Amish farmers. I love the way they take care of their farms. They are meticulous. There were two women in a buggy waiting to pull onto the road when we passed - their immaculate house and barn behind them. It was like a painting. Perfect and simple.

I've decided I hate recruiters. Apologies to anyone who reads this blog who may be engaged in such activity. I am working with three different agencies looking for contract programmers. The recruiters are pushy and schmoozy. They are basically used car salesmen that are in a different market. Pimps...that's what they are...pimps in acceptable suits.

I know...a random stream of babble. I'll pull myself together tomorrow.

Fall...

I need to work on a new banner this weekend. Fall is officially here. FOOTBALL STARTED! I love football. I love the game, the atmosphere, the tight pants.

This is Iowa vs. Iowa State weekend. GO HAWKS! It will be a munchies and beer on the couch afternoon. I can't WAIT!

What a great post!

While catching a blogging wave, I surfed to "Well, THAT Was Hardly Necessary..." and saw this post. It was really worth a great laugh and a trip down memory lane.

It's all so true, it's downright scary. Thanks for the post, Mox. Looking forward to reading more of your blog!

Paula moved...

Since Paula isn't posting on here lately (read LONG time) I thought I would update you. She has moved. Again. I guess I'm a homebody. This is now the third house that she had lived in since I've known her.
Just the thought of going through the packing process, the moving process, the paperwork involved with a realtor and a home loan makes me want to find a hole. It's so much easier to stay put.
I know she wasn't happy with her old house, though. It helps that she isn't NEARLY the packrat I am! She packed in just a couple of days. It would literally take me a couple of months to pack up everything.
I think I'll just stay here until I die and refinance instead! LOL.
